I am looking for vintage Airstreams 1969 or older.
I like them all but prefer older and shorter.
General rule #1.....The older the Airstream , the lighter the Airstream.
My 56 Overlander weighs only 3000 pounds at 26 feet.
The 68 Overlander reached 4170 pounds!
at 26 feet
Weight gain for Airstreams is about 50-100 pounds a year.
By 1972 the Overlander is up to 4500 pounds and is 27 feet long.
Compressed sawdust cabinets used in the 1970"s Airstreams weighs more than real wood in the older Airstreams.
Short ones such as
Bambi,Caravel,Wanderer,Pacer,Bubble and the 18 footer are the most in demand.
Next is the Globetrotter
Then the 22 foot Safari, Caravanner and Custom
The 24 foot Tradewind is right in the middle and came standard as a single axle and a tandem axle as an option
Getting larger and more available is the 26 foot Overlander. Earlier 50's models came standard as single axle with tandem axle being a popular option.
Production numbers were generally highest for the Overlander which explains the greater availability of this viintage model today.
The 28 foot Ambassador was the second longest Airstream.
